1. I realize it's been well over six months since I've written.
2. I'm home in Schuyler for the weekend. I was given a few days off before I dive head first into the musical.
3. I'm having to take an extra day off because I found something on my body that's questionable. My mom now thinks I have melanoma (skin cancer). I'm going to the doctor Monday to get a few things cut off and tested. I haven't been to the doctor since high school.
4. I'm going to try the March Photo a Day challenge.
5. I haven't been having good dreams for a long time.
6. I'm excited and nervous for the summer. I'm excited because my girlfriend is moving in with me. I'm nervous because I don't know how I'll be paying my bills and I still don't know where I'll be for sure in the fall. Granted, I have a back up job in case I don't get a teaching gig, but I can't work there forever.
7. I miss hanging out with people. I miss people in general.
8. I've done a lot of traveling over the past two months. I've flown to Dallas. I've taken a bus to Chicago. I've driven to the twin cities (well, Hastings, MN).
9. I need to get my butt in gear this weekend.
10. I want to have people over. Soon.
That's all for now.

10 Mile Stereo
I've realized I haven't written for quite some time. I've even thought about just closing down my blog considering how little I've been using it. I haven't been as productive lately as I had hoped to be. Tomorrow I am making a huge work day, and to plan out what I need to accomplish this week as we near the beginning of July. I suppose one of the reasons I haven't felt the need to write is nothing extremely exciting has happened in my life. I'm still unemployed, trying constantly to get a job. However, I am now certified to teach in Texas to say the least. I am certified to teach in three states, but I still don't have a job. I've been pushing as hard as I can to grab people's attention lately, and I find myself consistently disappointed and let down by those that I'm having to work with.
I've been cleaning a lot I suppose. De-cluttering my life. I finished my pile of shredding today and I oddly feel a lot lighter and cleaner inside my mind. My room shows it too. It's been a lot of receipts, school stuff, journal entries, etc. I keep having to remind myself that when I move, do I really want to take all of that clutter with me?
I am still happily in a relationship. Three weeks it'll be three months. Three months is important to me because if most of my relationships have never made it that far. I had myself fairly convinced that I was jinxed. Long distance has been hard. But her current living situation makes it harder, not allowing us to see each other unless I get an interview or officially move down there. It's frustrating. But it's not her fault, by no means. Her parents are just terrible.
I have a lot of butt kicking I need to do on myself this week. I need to get back to practicing Holly's wedding music (which I'm excited for!) since that will be in three weeks. The time that I've practiced it so far, it sounds pretty alright. Timing is just going to be an issue, of whether I need to slow it down or have it on repeat. We'll see, I suppose.
I feel like I want to be productive still tonight, but I feel like I wouldn't do my best at what I need to accomplish. So with that said, I feel it is time to call it a night so I can be wide eyed and awake to really accomplish something.
Good night, friends.
Peace out.

Till The World Ends
Dear Britney Spears,
I was very excited to see that you were going to be on the Billboard Music Awards last night. I was even more excited that you were going to be performing "Till The World Ends." However, I'm deeply disappointed in you. After years and years of people ridiculing you because of lip-syncing, I thought you would have learned your lesson by now and would actually sing in a live performance like a real performer would do. I'm sorry Britney, but when the music started and you had a surprised look on your face that the music was starting and you weren't ready for it, you looked washed up. Sweetheart, there is still time to redeem yourself. Your Femme Fatale album is great. And your single "Till The World Ends" is amazing. I truly love it. But honey, please sing when you perform and not look like you're unsure of yourself when you're actually lip syncing. You would gain so much respect from the music world and your fans. The only person you're fooling is yourself.
Best,
- C

No Home
It's officially been one year since I moved back from Chicago.
Which means.
I've been living at home for a year after college and not much has changed.
I lost some friends. I got my brother back. I chopped off most of my hair. I gained an amazing girlfriend.
Now if only I could get a real job.
What is it going to take to get my hands on one anymore?
Peace out.

If The Brakeman Turns My Way
So, originally Stacy was supposed to visit over Memorial Day weekend. Then she started a new job that won't allow her to take off of work for the first three months she would work there. Then she got a call recently that her grandpa is really sick, and her grandma asked if she could come stay with her over the summer in western Nebraska this summer.
My goodness.
Peace out.

Swimming
It's been too long since I've given some sort of update. I don't have much time to do a real one right now since it's 1:20am and I need to be up in about five hours, so please be patient.
1. I didn't get the Schuyler job. I wasn't even considered really. Am I bitter? Yes. Am I angry? Yes. After this year, I'm never working for SCS ever again.
2. Stacy and I are official. I'm extremely happy. Andrew and I were talking tonight about not being used to good things happening to us. I actually have the girl I wanted. And by golly, she's amazing. She lives in Texas (she's originally from Lincoln, NE), which makes it difficult, but we make it through by communicating every day in one way or another. She's just incredible, and I am so lucky.
3. I'm not having luck with jobs in Nebraska, so I'm applying to places in Texas. They have loads of music jobs. I'm hoping to have 13 applied for by Friday. I'm also applying because Stacy is there. My mom is supporting my decision. She knows I need to get out of Nebraska. And I don't want to be 11 to 12 hours away from Stacy forever. There are a lot of orchestra jobs in the Houston/Pasadena area. Stacy said no matter where it is in Texas, I should go for it. Just having me in the state will be better than being in Nebraska. Houston/Pasadena is about 4 to 5 hours from where she'll be, which sucks, but it's far better than 11 to 12 hours. She lives in the Dallas area, which, I'm applying for jobs there too, but there aren't any orchestra jobs. Mostly just choral music. But Stacy says I should definitely consider Houston or Pasadena since the orchestra jobs are there because she knows that's what will make me happy. She said we can make it work if I'm that far away.
4. I've been kicking caffeine. And it's tough. Man oh man it's tough. Because of this, I haven't even really been drinking much pop. It's mostly been loads of water. But I think I'm over the headaches.
5. I'm getting my brother back.
I need to go to bed now. Sleepy substitute teachers are worthless. But I don't necessarily need to teach for the next two days I'm subbing. I'm working with industrial tech, and all the kids have stations to go to and know what they're doing. I'm hoping I can get some of the work for my job applications accomplished during this time. Alright, sleep.
Peace out.

Ghosts of Brandenburg
Tonight I stood in front of my mirror with my headphones on, conducting various pieces with my baton. I realized I'm a little rusty. I also realized just how bad I want an orchestra or even a choir of my own to conduct (mostly an orchestra though).
Tonight I'm really missing Chicago. Or maybe I'm just really missing the people. Is it bad that I want to fly out there in May to see Curie's orchestra concert and to visit a few other people?
Even though I know I won't be living there any time soon or possibly ever, I still have a place for the city in my heart. It was truly the greatest time of my life.
Peace out.

Wind Up Dream
What a bizarre and flat out weird day. I think my entire family can agree that this hasn't been the best of years. For my brother and I, I feel like starting this summer, we'll both be practically starting life all over again. Who knows what the future holds for both of us.
As some of you know, I had applied for the Chicago Center apprenticeship. Emily called me this morning to tell me that they weren't going to offer it to me. It was one of the most awkward phone calls I've ever had. After I hung up, I was sad, followed by angry, followed by feeling somewhat lost. But at least I know now and not later. I sort of I guess felt betrayed by Chicago in a really strange way. Like I began to lose all hope and interest in ever returning to the city.
It really was an overly weird day. I did receive a lovely wake up call by Stacy (or Hispaniola, in which Luis gave her the nickname of), the new woman in my life that I am 'seeing' which was wonderful. Then I received that call from the CCULC. I spent the afternoon doing a job search binge for all over the place. Then a little after 4pm, I received an e-mail from the program director for Rock For Kids in Chicago about the accompanist position I applied for last week to set up a phone interview this week. I'm actually excited about this because this is a type of program I think I'd love working for. However, it's only listed as a part-time job. Stacy and I had a long conversation tonight about what we feel is the number one necessity of our own lives. She said she hopes to at least make a different in one person's life. Here's the thing. That used to be my answer. Or at least, my answer to my life goal. But I feel like I've done that (not that I'm saying I don't want to keep doing that). But my automatic answer was to always have music in my life. It's something that I need to live like air or food. I've really been trying to not be a Debbie Downer, but I don't think people realize the situation music teachers are in right now. Each school (if even) usually only has one music teacher. It's not like how schools have 4 or so classroom teachers for each grade or 4 English teachers in high school. I've been searching like crazy, and the jobs just aren't there. Both public and charter schools (sorry Stephanie!). Today I've been doing nothing but thinking. I just wish there wasn't so much pressure to get a 'real' job. Right now, I don't know where I want to go, or really what I want to do. I just know I need music. I just feel like there's a lot of pressure to use my degree for the commonly expected use; to teach in a public school. But Stacy was listing off other ways I can still have music in my life and be able to help people in various ways. And the options she was listing sound really great too. It's just to find them. I'll be honest, I had really started looking for jobs in the area she lives in (or at least up to 5 hours away from where she lives). Stacy lives in Texas, so we are doing long distance. She is quite amazing and if you (the reader) and I ever get the chance for me to tell you about her in person, you will think that she is absolutely perfect for me (because she thinks that I'm perfect). Because of the distance and the fact that we both sort of have lives, we have to wait a while before we can actually meet. Originally, we were going to meet over the summer since she is originally from Lincoln and spends every summer in Lincoln, but she has the opportunity to spend most of her summer in Europe. She invited me to be her wedding date for a wedding she's been helping with in October. Though, we found out last night that both of us are going to be in Missouri we believe the same weekend in May, both attending a graduation of a cousin's. We'll just be three hours apart. So we're thinking about seeing if we can meet each other half way. It's a lot better than the 11 hour drive that's between us right now. And I don't know if I can wait until October to see her.
Concerning the job department of my life, I have a lot of work to do this week. Tomorrow I'm expecting my pastor to call me to talk about the choir director position at my church. Yup. I buckled down. I also really need to start working on finding something to perform at my grandparents' 60th anniversary. I know no matter what I choose, my grandma will hate it, but my grandpa will love it. You're damned if you do. You're damned if you don't. You know?
I've been doing a lot of writing lately. And it's been really good material too, which is really strange. I actually played what I had started writing about Stacy TO Stacy last night for the first time and she loved it. I don't know how I'm all of the sudden writing quality songs. I just need to finish the batch that I currently have and someday perform them. As well as send them to Zane to be critiqued. :)
So, my birthday is in less than two months… If anyone wants to get me anything, he/she should buy me a tambourine. I'm serious. And if he/she really wants to be really generous, he/she should get me a ride cymbal. But I really do want a tambourine. :D
Anywho, I have Super Sentai episodes to watch that I'm behind on. And this Friday is Dan's 22nd birthday!!!
Peace out.

Girls With Accents
I have five words for you: gay, gay, gay, gay, gay.
This has been the most nervewracking yet one of the best nights I've had this year. Never has my face been this red. And it's been ages since I felt like this. I'm going to keep this blog entry as vague as possible just to be a butt. Let me just say this. I met a girl. But she doesn't live here. She's amazing. I don't remember the last time I've been this nervous. Or at least, this kind of nervous. Ohhhhhh man!
Peace out.

Run Devil Run
Many pieces and types of art can put me to tears, but nothing has put me in the tearful emotions and goofy smiles that Jenny Lewis is doing for me right now. At least not for ages.
Thank you, NPR, for posting a podcast from a concert she did years ago with The Watson Twins. Listening to her introduction of "Run Devil Run" had my eyes swelling and my lips curved with joy.

An Open Letter to Meghan McCain
Dear Meghan,
I watched your recent interview with Rachel Maddow not too long ago and please, PLEASE don't ever cut your bangs like that again. I loved your hair the way it was. Plus those new bangs make you look like a teenager from the 90's. Meghan McCain, although I am a registered democrat, I respect you as a republican. I do in fact have your book on my 'buy list.' If you ever happen to be in Nebraska, let me know. I would be honored go to dancing with you.
Sincerely,
- Christine

DARE
I DARE you to watch the full interview of Utah Rep. LaVar Christensen talking about the two bills he is proposing; HB 109 and HB 270. This guy is such a bigot and has no idea what he is saying. What way to tiptoe around saying that he hates gays. This is the biggest pile of discrimination I've seen in a good while. I bet he believes that women belong in the kitchen and only role in life is to make and raise babies too.
And people wonder why I am so angry.
Peace out.

Taking over the world one "Bad Romance" at a time…
I've lost a lot of momentum over the past 9 months. I'm currently working on applying for another job. In Chicago. I watch the CPS bulletins like a hawk, anticipating midnight to hit on Tuesday nights for the CPS Wednesday bulletin to be posted for new jobs. I have my word processor up to work on applying for a job that I aim to have finished within the next hour. Too much has left me feeling helpless. I've often felt embarrassed of my situation, and I shouldn't. It's out of my hands. I can only make the best of it. And I haven't been doing that to the fullest.
And so, I have Lady Gaga blaring in my ears through my gigantic headphones, pumping me up to charge.
LET'S DO THIS.
Let's take over the world one "ra ra ah ah ah, roma, ro ma ma, ga ga oo la la" at a time.
Peace out.

No Stars
Some folks are beginning to place blame on President Obama for the riots in Egypt because he proposed to cut funding for democracy there. I don't believe Obama is to blame. I'm not sure if there is blame to be placed. And if there is, what good what it do? I don't place blame on our President due to the fact that we have plenty of troubles on our own hands right now. This may not sound like a good excuse, which, it's not supposed to be an excuse. It's just the way things are right now. Far too much greed has taken over this country.
I feel there is a war awaiting here in the U.S. When I say war, I don't mean blood and guns. I mean of words, thoughts, and beliefs. The State of the Union address has been made and the ideas of what needs to be done was been laid before us. All there is left is the strategy that is to carry out these ideas. It's obvious to most of us that we need clean energy sources. If anyone doesn't believe those who do, then those who don't believe can take a good look at the smog that hovers over big cities. We are the only country (or at least, large country) that does not have an energy plan. And we're the United States of America. The Superman of the world. The Pickens Plan was presented to the U.S. two years ago and was shot down. I remember when I first heard of this two years ago and I thought it was brilliant. What I don't understand out of this situation is how the country shot it down, yet other countries in the world are successfully implementing it. So many innovative ideas have been created here on U.S. soil that can save the country, and yet they are shot down as fast as Sarah Palin can shoot down an animal from a helicopter.
Today Hawaii granted civil unions to homosexual couples. This is a small step for equality, but it's still a step short of where the country needs to be. I've been noticing lately that more and more celebrities are coming out. There has been discussion before as of what is the best route for the country as a whole to accept homosexuality. Some folks believe that we can't necessarily push the boundaries too far and make people accept homosexuality. Now, I don't necessarily agree with this. I think people need to see that it is normal, that it is ok, and your life does not lead to damnation (or bad occurances like the Westboro Baptist Church believes). Paris, France has a gay mayor. However, France will not grant gay marriage, finding its laws "constitutional." What a load of bull. I've stated this before, and I will state it again. If this country is going to be equal, and gays are going to get pushed with civil unions, than heterosexuals should be pushed to get civil unions as well. Civils unions are not the same as marriage. Yes, I think both should exist. I think they should exist for everyone. Gay AND straight. What's the big deal?
Civil unions are only recognized in the state for which they are performed in. Marriages are recognized on a national level (or at least, they're SUPPOSED to be). Due to these circumstances, civil unions do not get federal protections. If you're in a civil union and you want to get it dissolved, you must get it dissolved in the state you got it in. Also, one of the partners must be a resident of the state in order to get it dissolved. People in civil unions do not get the tax breaks that marriages grant. There are over 1,000 benefits and protections that marriages grant that civil unions do not.
If the United States was to grant partnership equality for all, then marriage MUST be granted to all homosexual couples. I think it should also be advertised that it's ok for heterosexual couples to get a civil union as well.
Homosexuality isn't immoral. Hate is immoral. Intolerance is immoral. The inability to accept people for who they are is immoral.
Although it is said that we shall not repeat history, I think certain aspects need to be looked back upon, and in some cases, yes, repeated. The protests and gathering to take a stand 50 years was amazing. But from there on, it sputtered out.
I am absolutely positive many people of this country are aware of what needs to change when it comes to the economy and what needs to be done to make this country better. I know plenty of people who are outraged at the proposed spending cuts the House Republicans are planning on making. Not one penny was taken away from defense, and it is clear that this country does not want their troops fighting in two ridiculous wars that will sputter out in 50 years. Money NEEDS to be taken from defense. We need to think with our heads on our shoulders and not in the safes of banks. Far too many politicians are being paid outrageous wages to not solve our problems.
So Christine, you must think you're so smart then. You solve our problems. Well, I may not have all the answers, but I do have suggestions, which is more than what part of this country has.
1. Politicians need to stop voting in pay raises. Their salaries should actually either get a freeze or be cut down. They need to give me 5 good reasons why they think they deserve to keep them.
2. Taxes do need to be raised for the wealthy. They just do.
3. Take money from defense. DADT was a mistake, and thank goodness it has been repealed. Far too much money was spent in order to train new soldiers to take over for those who were released.
4. STOP TAKING MONEY FROM EDUCATION. Whether you believe it or not, classroom size does matter. I've seen it with my own eyes. No Child Left Behind is finally being tossed out the window. THANK GOODNESS. Far too much emphasis has been put on standardized testing.
5. Don't even think about cutting funding for the arts. It's the only thing that makes us human, as well as the only thing a lot of students really only come to school for.
6. Don't cut funding for science. We actually need to be funding it more. We need cleaner energy sources. We need to find ways to create them in this country so we can provide jobs to our own.
7. Number 6 leads to number 7, meaning, we need to cut off our dependency for oil but a large sum. Hense, the Pickens Plan. We at least need to get away from getting oil from the Middle East (we're still doing that, right?).
8. Promote spending INSIDE the U.S. instead of OUTSIDE the U.S. Celebrities, this means you… Take a trip to Arizona for your spa retreat instead of Spain. Check out your national parks! This is now going for everyone. Go camping! Not only are you getting air and the very beauty of the country, you're also getting educated at the same time. Because seriously, learning IS fun. This is not only exercising your body, but your imagination as well. Why do we have such innovative ideas? Because we have folks with creativity and imagination because they had teachers who taught them how to exercise this right. Visit museums and art galleries. Take advantage of the free things going on in your community. Roadtripping is a signature of the United States (as stated in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas). Although gas prices are sure to surge soon, at least plan carefully. Hopefully soon we'll be able to have more efficient automobiles.
9. Grant equality for all. FOR ALL. And let nothing slide. We need to treat one another with kindness and respect. Let's keep working on this.
10. Stop making so many Holocaust references, Fox News. Cripes already. It's becoming offensive to me even.
11. Stop giving those with hateful messages a voice. That means stop letting anti-gay folks be on television, and by golly, stop giving Sarah Palin media coverage. I know we're all entitled to freedom of speech, but when it provides harm, then it needs to stop.
12. I feel like older generations do not have faith in the younger generations. I think politicians need to reach out more to the younger folks who are going to be running this country soon and who have to pick up the mess that was created. Obama, you want even MORE people on your side? Keep reaching out to the younger generation. That's why hardly any 20-something year olds don't care. Because politicians don't care. Reach out and let's make change together.
Peace out.
